Abstract

General elections (elections) are a requirement in a democratic system. In the seventh presidential election (pilpres) in 2014, social networking media such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, BlackBerry Messengers and the Kaskus discussion forum began to be widely used as effective communication tools in gathering mass support. In a relatively short time, social media can gather a large following. The use of social media by volunteers and supporters is not only a tool to promote presidential/vice presidential candidates, but also to carry out black campaigns and negative campaigns to attack and bring down rival pairs. The dynamics of social networking communities have fluid characteristics, enormous individual freedom, and can be used by anyone and for any interest. Expressions on Kaskus social networks are interactive and very diverse. Kaskus is full of power dynamics (movements) that can cause changes in the life of the community concerned. The aim of this research is to find out the dynamics of political communication between Joko Widodo's supporters in Kaskus during the presidential election campaign period 5 June - 5 July 2014. The research method is a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. The research results concluded that the results obtained on social media can only increase voter confidence but are not a determinant of victory.
