The process of establishing the Islamic Economics Study Program at undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels at Universitas Airlangga based on the official Chancellor's Decree and other supporting documents, it can be concluded that the process of establishing the Islamic Economics Study Program at Universitas Airlangga went through several stages, namely:
Milestone History of the Establishment of the Islamic Economics Study Program at Universitas Airlangga
Introduction Stage (1998 – 1999)
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics at that time, Prof. Suroso Imam Zadjuli (1994 – 2001), in 1998, began carrying out an initiative to introduce Islamic economics to the academic community of the Faculty of Economics (FE) Universitas Airlangga (Unair). The initiative to introduce Islamic economics within the FE Unair academic community was carried out by providing sharia banking services, namely by opening the Unair Bank Muamalat Indonesia Cash Office located in the ABC Building (Academic Business Center) on the 2nd floor to provide sharia banking services to the FE Unair academic community. The next initiation step taken by Prof Suroso Imam Zadjuli was to organize training on Islamic Economics for Unair FE lecturers. The training was held in 1999 by bringing in Dr. Thaha El Tayeb Ahmad, Head of Islamic Banking Studies, Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance, and Dr. Syafii Antonio from Tazkia Institute. The training aims to introduce the basic concepts of Islamic Economics and Sharia Finance to FE Unair lecturers.
Preparatory Stage (2000 – 2005)
As a follow-up to the results of the previous training in 1999, and as a form of enthusiasm to build an Islamic Economics study program at FE Unair, in 2000, during the leadership of the Dean of FE Unair, namely Prof Suroso Imam Zadjuli, the Center for the Development and Study of Islamic Economics was formed in FE Unair, where one of the aims of establishing this institution was to prepare for the formation of an interest in studying Islamic Economics as well as a means of socializing Islamic economics within the FE Unair environment. So in 2002 an initiation was carried out to form an interest in studying Islamic Economics in the Economics Doctoral Study Program. In 2005, based on Chancellor's Decree No. 8445/J03/PP/2005, an Islamic Economics Study Interest was officially established in the Unair Postgraduate Economics Doctoral Study Program.
Establishment Stage (2006 – 2010)
In 2006, the Dean of FE Unair at that time, Drs. Ec. Karjadi Mintaroem, MS (2001 – 2010) continued the establishment preparation process that had been carried out by the previous dean, so as a first step in establishing the Islamic Economics Undergraduate Study Program, he formed a work team (task force) to develop an Islamic Economics study interest program in the Development Economics Study Program (EP). . Finally, in 2006, an Islamic Economics Study Interest was formed in the EP Study Program based on the Decree of the Chancellor Universitas Airlangga No. 6966/J03/PP/2006, dated 25 September 2006. At that time the number of students interested in studying Islamic Economics was 22 people from management, accounting and development economics study programs. This number consisted of 20 people from the class of 2006, and 2 people from the class of 2005. The courses taught in the Islamic Economics Study Interest at that time were 5 courses, namely Islamic Economics 1 and 2, Islamic Economics Seminar, Sharia Financial Institutions, and Thesis. The Study Interest Coordinator at that time was appointed Drs. Ec. Suherman Rosyidi, M.Com.
In 2007, based on Chancellor's Decree no. 9935/J03/HK/2007 dated 22 October 2007 established the Department of Sharia Economics as the fourth department within FE Unair. The first Head of the Sharia Economics Department was Dr. Sri Kusreni, SE, M.Si, with Department Secretary Habiburrahman, SE, M.Si, Ak. A year after the formation of the Sharia Economics Department, in 2008 based on Chancellor's Decree No. 4311/J03/OT/2008 dated 10 March 2008 officially established the Islamic Economics Undergraduate Study Program which also merged the Islamic Economics Study Interest Program into the Islamic Economics Undergraduate Study Program. At its inception, based on this decree, it was called the Sharia Economics Undergraduate Study Program, but based on certain considerations and as a differentiator from similar study programs within Islamic Religious Universities, it was based on the Chancellor's Decree No. 72/H3/KR/2011, dated January 31 2011 changed its name to the Islamic Economics Undergraduate Study Program until now. The first Chair of the Islamic Economics Undergraduate Study Program at that time was Mr. Habiburrahman, SE, M.Si, Ak who also served as Secretary of the Department.
In 2008, it was also based on the same Chancellor's Decree, namely Chancellor's Decree No. 4311/J03/OT/2008 dated 10 March 2008 also established the Islamic Economics Doctoral Study Program at the Universitas Airlangga Postgraduate Program, with the first Head of the Islamic Economics Doctoral Study Program being Prof. Suroso Imam Zadjuli which is managed by the Universitas Airlangga Postgraduate Program.
In 2007, to prepare for teaching, several lecturers were sent to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) to take a short course on Islamic economics and finance. The following year, to strengthen the implementation of lectures, in November 2008 an Islamic economics curriculum workshop was held in collaboration with the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), and continued with TOT Islamic Finance in 2009 in collaboration with INCIEF Malaysia.
In the 2007/2008 academic year to the 2009/2010 academic year, student admissions to the Bachelor of Islamic Economics Study Program still used the independent admission route. The route for accepting new students via the SNMPTN route was implemented in the 2010/2011 academic year.
In 2010 based on Chancellor's Decree No. 94/H3/KR/2010, the Islamic Economics Masters Study Program was established which complemented the existence of the Bachelor and Doctoral Study Programs that had been established previously. When the Master of Islamic Economics Study Program was first established, it was under the management of the Sharia Economics Department, FE Unair, but based on Chancellor's Decree No. 1947/H3/KR/2011 dated 4 November 2011 concerning Determination of the Scope of Study Programs in the Monodisciplinary, Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Categories for Management of Masters Programs and Doctoral Programs, the Islamic Economics Masters Study Program together with the Islamic Economics Doctoral Study Program are determined to be under management Universitas Airlangga Postgraduate School, although teaching resources come from the Faculty of Economics and Business Universitas Airlangga .
