(FEB News) Wednesday, FEB UNAIR - S2 Study Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB Unair) held a public lecture with Dr. Suntono, M.Si., Head of the Center for Education and Training (Pusdiklat) of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the Soepoyo Hall, 3rd Floor FEB Unair. This lecture explores the role of data in supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs) in Indonesia.

BPS FEB UA Public LectureIn his presentation, Dr. Suntono stressed that SDGs are a global commitment that must be implemented with the principle of Leave no One Behind. This requires an inclusive, fair and accurate data -based development policy. "If the data used is not right, then the resulting policy will also not be effective in achieving the SDGs target," said Dr. Suntono.

He also highlighted the challenges in the implementation of SDGs in Indonesia, such as social inequality, access to education that was not evenly distributed, and unemployment in urban and rural areas that have different characteristics. Dr. Suntono shared his experience when arguing with academics who questioned why the economy could grow but poverty and unemployment also increased. He emphasized that conditions on the ground are often not in accordance with conventional economic theory, so the data -based approach is very necessary in policy analysis.

In addition, he highlighted the importance of the use of digital technology in optimizing the achievement of SDGs. With a better information system, transparency in the distribution of social assistance can be increased, thereby accelerating poverty alleviation and strengthening government accountability in managing development policies.

This public lecture not only provides academic insight, but also encourages collaboration between educational institutions and government institutions in supporting SDG's programs. FEB UNAIR through this activity acts as a bridge between the academic world and public policy by presenting experts who have practical experience in managing data and development policies.
