(FEB NEWS) Yesterday (18/05/2023), the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga , in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS) held a lecture session delivered by Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si – Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Community Development, Universitas Airlangga , with Mr. Novrys Suhardianto, SE., MSA., Ak., Ph.D., CA. as moderator. In the lecture session, Prof. Nyoman delivered interactive learning with the theme "Roles of Academic and Education Community in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)".
To build an interactive atmosphere, Prof. Nyoman opened the session by asking NUS students regarding their views on the Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. After one of the audience expressed his aspirations, Prof. Nyoman gave his appreciation in the form of applause as well as explaining this matter in more detail.
Surprisingly, Prof. Nyoman then stated that there would be a transition from SDGs, because all countries had understood and were estimated to achieve the 17 goals by 2030, becoming a world megatrend phase which would take place in 2030-2045, coinciding with Indonesia's Golden Age. He also touched on the need for support for the circular economy in welcoming this phase, namely the principle of a sustainable, zero waste-based economy. Prof. Nyoman also emphasized strongly that in achieving this, the contribution of young people as agents of change is very necessary, so that the character quality of young people must be high quality.
One way to improve overall character quality is through adequate and high quality education, which is what Universitas Airlangga for its students. Therefore, Prof. Nyoman highlighted the three pillars of Universitas Airlangga in improving the quality of student resources, namely teaching and learning activities, research and community service. By achieving these three pillars, the character quality improvement of students will also be maximized. In this way, the role of education in welcoming the achievement of the SDGs is fulfilled.
At the end of the material delivery session, Prof. Nyoman also expressed his commitment to improving the performance of research and community service from Universitas Airlangga to the entire community, both local and international, as well as other achievements that can accelerate the realization of the SDGs.
The Lecture Session which was held with 34 NUS students also supports the achievement of SDGs 17, namely Partnership for the Goals, because it accommodates cross-sectoral dialogue with interactive discussion topics related to SDGs from different societal perspectives. Through this activity, it is hoped that the two universities can gain broader insight regarding the role of education in achieving the SDGs and can collaborate again more solidly in the future.
