Abstract

It cannot be denied that leadership in a team, if linked to an appropriate team development process, will have a positive impact on performance results and job satisfaction in the team. The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between transformational leadership and team performance results as well as the level of team job satisfaction which is mediated by the level of cognitive trust in the leader and in between fellow members (cognitive trust among team members) as well as a sense of self-confidence in shared abilities (collective efficacy) in the team. This research was conducted at 12 branch offices, PT. Bank Mandiri Tbk. Surabaya. This research survey was conducted on 86 respondents in Division Staff positions, as well as 32 respondents in Supervisor or Division Manager positions. The statistical tool for this research uses Partial Least Square (SmartPLS 3.0). Based on the test results, it shows that Transformational Leadership has a positive and significant relationship or influence on Cognitive Trust in Team Leaders and Cognitive Trust among Team Members; Cognitive Trust in Team Leader has a positive but not significant relationship or influence on Collective Efficacy. It is slightly different that Cognitive Trust among Team Members has a positive and significant relationship or influence on Collective Efficacy; Collective Efficacy has a positive and significant relationship or influence on Team Performance; Collective Efficacy has a positive and significant relationship or influence on Team Job Satisfaction. In addition, the test results show that Cognitive Trust in Team Leaders is not a mediating variable between Transformational Leadership and Collective Efficacy, but is different from Cognitive Trust among Team Members which is a mediating variable between Transformational Leadership and Collective Efficacy.
