(SDG's News) Wednesday, April 23, 2025 - The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR), Held a Special Guest Lecture Titled "A Look Under The Hood: Good Governance" featuring International Speaker Dr. Jeffrey Stangl, BA, Mba, PhD, CFA. From Massey Business School, New Zealand. The Event Took Place at the Soepoyo Hall and Was Attended by Undergraduate Accounting Students (From the Sustainability Reporting Course) and Master's Degree Accounting Students.
In His Presentation, Dr. Stangl Invited Participants to Reflect On The True Meaning of Good Governance and Its Relevance in Today's Business Context. He is began with a thought-covoking question: "What is good governance, and why should you care?"
According to him, good governance is not mely about legal compliance, but a deeply rooted ethical commitment that starts from organizational leadership and culture. He Criticized Questionable Business Practices, Including Failures in the Cryptocurrency and Banking Sectors, as Symptoms of Weak Corporate Ethics.
"Good Governance Involves Integrity, Transparency, and Accountability in Decision-Making," Dr. Emphasized stangl. He highlighted eight key principles of governance, noting that while they are voluntary in nature, they form the foundation of a healthy organizational culture.
Quoting Warren Buffett, he underscored the importance of integrity: "I want employees to ask themselves whether they would be comfortable seeing their actions reported on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper."
Dr. Stangl Also Drew a Clear Distinction between ethics and compliance, emphasizing that compliance means following the rules, while ethics involves the morals of that guides actions beyond written policies. 
This guest lecture provided valuable learning experiences for students, especially in understanding how accounting and governance contributes to organizational transparency and accountability. Through Insights from a Global Academic Perspective, Students were encouraged to see the critical role of ethics in an ever-evolving business environment.
