Abstract

An organization that has quality human resources can become a competitive advantage when the organization has to compete against business competitors. PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI (Persero) or PTPN This research aims to determine the effect of monetary compensation and promotion on the intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation of permanent employees at the PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI (Persero) Head Office in Surabaya. The research method was carried out using a survey via questionnaire. The population in this study were all permanent employees from 14 divisions at the Head Office of PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI (Persero), totaling 276 people. The research sample was 239 people and 142 respondents returned the questionnaire, with a response rate of 59.4%. The data analysis tool used to test the hypothesis is the multiple linear regression statistical method using SPSS 16.0, with the equation formula for intrinsic motivation: Y1 = 2.966-0.113X1 + 0.402X2 and for extrinsic motivation Y2 = 2.275+0.289X1 + 0.185X2, with significance level at 0.05, to test the effect of monetary compensation and promotion on intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. The research results show that monetary compensation does not have a significant effect on employee intrinsic motivation, but has a significant positive effect on employee extrinsic motivation. Promotion has a significant positive effect on employee intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. A comparison of the strength of influence of the dependent variables shows that promotions have a more dominant influence on employee motivation to work at PTPN XI Head Office.
