Abstract

The variety of sugar cane seeds is very crucial in getting good quality sugar cane plants with high sugar content/yield and production. Arranging varieties is very important so that the composition of existing varieties can meet ideal milling needs. However, the current conditions are that the arrangement of varieties has not gone well. Therefore, it is very important to know the attributes that exist in sugarcane varieties so that an evaluation of the level of importance of the attributes in variety selection can be carried out. This research aims to find out the factors that influence farmers in choosing sugarcane varieties to plant and to find out the main factors for farmers in determining what varieties to plant on the land. The research method used in this research is conjoint analysis. Conjoint analysis is a technique for determining the level of importance and relative importance of various attributes of a product or service. The research was carried out in two stages, in the first stage a preliminary test was carried out to find out the most important factors in choosing seed varieties. Then, from the preliminary test results, a profile card is created using an orthogonal design. The results of this preliminary test show that farmer respondents prefer maturity type factors (early, middle, late), yield potential factors (low, medium, high) and seed price factors (expensive and cheap). From the results of the second test after carrying out conjoint analysis, it is known that the most important factor in selecting seed varieties when viewed from the importance value is the maturity type factor (55.095%), then the yield potential (26.555%) and finally the seed price (18.350%). The combination of preferences of sugar cane farmers in choosing sugar cane seed varieties is those with early maturity, high yield potential and low prices.
