Abstract

As the largest automotive company group in Indonesia, the Astra group forms partnerships with component makers or suppliers. Suppliers in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) category for motorbike components reached 94% while car components reached 60%. One form of partnership carried out by the Astra group is in the form of sharing knowledge with its suppliers, however there is no empirical evidence to show that the relationships that have been established so far improve the performance of its suppliers. Based on the concept of social capital, this research argues that relational relationship capital will have a positive effect on knowledge sharing and supplier performance. Furthermore, this influence will be stronger if the supplier has low dependence on the Astra group and weaken if the opposite is true. Using a survey conducted on suppliers, the analysis results show that there is a positive and significant influence of relationship capital on knowledge sharing and supplier performance. This research also shows that relationship capital is formed by cognitive capital and interactional capital. The results of further analysis show that dependence does not moderate the effect of relationship capital on knowledge sharing and supplier performance. Further managerial and academic implications are discussed in this paper.
