Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of individual character on the financial budgeting and savings of young families in Surabaya. Individual character is proxied by self-control, preference for debt and prospensity to plan. The research method is explanatory research with a quantitative approach using multiple regression statistical tests. The data collection technique uses a survey method in the form of distributing questionnaires to young families in Surabaya. For each question and column the respondent fills in the questionnaire using a Likert scale. The results of statistical tests show that self-control and prospensity to plan have a positive effect on budgeting, while debt preferences have no effect on budgeting because it is human nature to try hard to fulfill their needs and desires. Then, self control and prospensity to plan have no effect on family savings because the respondents are young families who have only been married for 1-5 years so their respective egos are still high and need to adapt to married life and do not have a priority scale in carrying out propensity to plan. plan, while debt preferences have a positive effect on family savings because debt can be categorized as a dissaving condition or negative savings for investment or business for future savings.
