Abstract
Sustainability issues are closely related to environmental problems. One thing that has a big impact on the environment is human behavior. This study examines the determining factors of individual characteristics in efforts to consume clean water and electricity efficiently, use of motor vehicles and manage household waste. This research uses cross section data from the 2013 Environmental Care Behavior Survey (SPPLH) conducted by the Central Statistics Agency. This survey has 75,000 samples throughout Indonesia. Logistic regression was chosen as the main analysis. This study found that women tend to behave more environmentally conscious than men. Individual awareness is positively related to age and education level. The available information also increases respondents' awareness of efficient consumption levels for better environmental quality. In addition, it was found that respondents with better incomes were more aware of saving water than saving electricity. The government should strive to increase public knowledge about the environment. The intensity of disseminating information through print, social and electronic media as well as implementing pricing policies are also relevant to increasing public awareness.
