Abstract
This research aims to analyze the influence of economic, demographic and social characteristics including wages, age, education level, status in the household, area of residence and work experience on the employment decisions of female workers in Indonesia. Based on data from the August 2017 National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), Central Bureau of Statistics, this research was conducted using the multinomial logistic regression method. The results of the research show that wages, age, education level, status in the household, area of residence, and work experience have a significant influence on the decision to work for female workers in Indonesia. The probability of female workers increasing to work in the tertiary sector compared to the primary sector. This finding is in line with the trend of increasing female workers in the tertiary sector, which is one of the factors influencing the shift in economic structure in Indonesia. Another finding is that increasing wages reduces the probability of female workers working in the secondary sector. This condition may be related to the existence of minimum wage regulations and work contracts that bind female workers in the secondary sector, especially in the formal sector of the processing industry. Based on region, female workers with high school educational qualifications, status as head of household, living in urban areas, and having work experience in all regions increase the probability of working in the tertiary sector.
