Abstract

Poverty is a problem that involves many aspects because it is related to low income, illiteracy, low health status and inequality between genders and a poor living environment (Word Bank, 2010). Overcoming the problem of poverty cannot be done separately from the problems of economic growth, minimum wages, open unemployment rates and education as well as other problems that are explicitly closely related to the problem of poverty. This study examines the influence of economic growth, minimum wage, open unemployment rate and education (average years of schooling) on ​​the number of poor people in East Java, in this case for all districts/cities in East Java in 2008-2013. The aim of this research is to analyze how and how much influence economic growth, minimum wage, open unemployment rate and education (average years of schooling) have on the number of poor people in East Java, so that later it is hoped that it can be used as a basis for determining policy in overcome the problem of poverty in East Java. The data used in this research is secondary data obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Manpower Office as support. The analytical method used in this research is the panel data regression analysis method using the FEM method with the help of Eviews 6 software. The results of this research show that the Economic Growth variable has a negative but not significant effect on the level of the number of poor people, the Minimum Wage variable has a significant negative effect on the number poor population, the Open Unemployment Rate variable has a significant negative effect on the number of poor people and the Education variable (average years of schooling has a significant negative effect on the number of poor people in East Java.
