(FEB NEWS) A team of students from Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has made another achievement through the 2024 Student Creativity Program (PKM). The team consisting of five students from across faculties succeeded in obtaining funding for their innovative proposal in the field of entrepreneurship. With the title "HELIX HEAL: Potential for Using Snail Slime (Achatina fulica) in Plaster Form as an Alternative for Healing Cut Wounds," this team presents a new and practical solution for healing wounds.
The Helix Heal team is led by Ilma Amalia Kartika (S1 Nursing) and consists of Rizka Khadijah Amalia (S1 Accounting), Awig Purbaningrum (S1 Nursing), Dwi Saputri Hayuningrum (S1 Nursing), and Diadora Giselza Prajnamita (S1 Accounting) under the guidance of Sylvia Dwi Wahyuni , S. Kep., Ns., M. Kep. These students come from two different faculties, namely the Faculty of Nursing and the Faculty of Economics and Business, which show strong synergy in creating innovative products in the health and pharmaceutical fields.
Helix Heal, the name of this innovative plaster product, uses snail mucus which is known to have good properties for healing wounds. In contrast to traditional use which only uses mucus without any processing, Helix Heal turns it into a more practical and hygienic plaster. It is hoped that Helix Heal products will not only be a new solution in Indonesia, but can also compete in international markets. With this success, Universitas Airlangga has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the innovation and creativity of its students.
"We designed this product to provide an alternative wound healing that is more effective and easy to use," said Ilma Amalia Kartika, head of the Helix Heal team. "We see the great potential of snail mucus which has not been utilized optimally. With this plaster innovation, we hope to make a real contribution to the world of health."
Apart from that, Helix Heal products also implement 2 important SDG points, namely goal 3 Good health and well-being and goal 12 Responsible Consumption and Production. This is proven by Helix Heal's internal and external packaging, which uses environmentally friendly materials that are easy to recycle.
