UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to encourage and support activities with a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) perspective. In this regard, on Friday (02/12/22) a closing ceremony was held which was a concrete action for the implementation of the SDGs Airlangga Interdisciplinary Learning Program (SAIL Program). Behind the success of the event, collaboration was created between the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Vocational Studies, and Mara Technology University Malaysia.
Taking place in the Fajar FEB UNAIR Hall, the event was attended by representatives of several UNAIR students. The event opened with a sharing session entitled Business Communication for Future Carers. The first topic was brought by Pn. Suhaila Kasim from the UiTM Malaysia team. The material presented is the skills needed for work. Suhaila explained that there is research data that says there are Top 10 Skills 2022.
"In the end, the core skills needed are critical thinking, creativity and having a heart," said Suhaila Kasim.
Suhaila continued, the focus of the discussion was Torrance, a modern creative theorist who made many contributions to education and became an inspiration for world figures. From his experience in working as a teacher, he found that many students who had difficulties at school turned out to be successful people. According to Torrance, there are four creative elements to achieve success, namely, fluency, flexibility, originality and elaboration.
In the second presentation, the speaker was delivered by Dr Idris Osman who is also a team from UiTM Malaysia. This time the discussion shifted to Intercultural Communication. Communication is an important part of culture and vice versa. Intercultural occurs when people from different cultures interact with each other to build relationships.
Idris added that human interaction is also caused by the development of globalization. As globalization advances, global market competition increases and creates creative business problem solving. Intercultural barriers can occur due to anxiety, negative assumptions, tribalism, stereotypes, and racial discrimination.
Potential for Collaboration
The summer course event has the potential for collaboration that can be carried out between participants from various countries who focus on SDGs goals. Apart from that, the SAIL Program is a concrete manifestation of SDGs cooperation at the tertiary level. At the end of the series of events closed with remarks from UiTM Malaysia lecturers and representatives of the FEB Dean.
"I hope that this year's summer course program can provide opportunities for students and can increase collaboration between universities in the field of education that specifically focuses on SDGs aspects," said the Dean of FEB UNAIR Prof Dr Dian Agustia SE MSi Ak. (*)
