Savira Rizma Yunita, SM. with Dr. Dino Patti Djalal
The Indonesia Universities Climate Conference (IUCC) is a conference related to climate change organized by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) where Dr. Dino Patti Djalal as chairman and founder collaborated with the United Kingdom Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Secretariat of the 26th UN Climate Change Summit (COP26). This conference was held at the Le Meridien Hotel, Jakarta on 29 - 30 March 2022.
As one of the best universities in Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has contributed significantly to the success of the vision of achieving Indonesia's zero emissions target by 2050. This was done by sending delegates to the Indonesian University Climate Conference (IUCC). In this IUCC forum, Universitas Airlangga brought the title "Mitigating Climate Change Through Decarbonization Towards a Green Economy for Eastern Indonesia".
The Universitas Airlangga delegation team who attended offline was represented by Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Sc. as Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Community Development; and Savira Rizma Yunita, SM. as a Master of Management Science student (MSM FEB UNAIR). The delegation representative who attended online was Bayu Arie Fianto, SE, MBA., Ph.D. as a lecturer at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB); Dr. Eko Prasetyo Kuncoro, ST, DEA. as a lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST); and Dita Savana Aqsalia as an environmental engineering student.
At the conference, UNAIR representatives namely Prof Dr Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih M Si and Savira Rizma Yunita, SM. proposes to form a National Research Consortium. This consortium acts as an independent recommendation body that focuses on efforts to prevent the climate crisis. With representatives from various universities and scholars, it is hoped that this consortium can encourage government policies related to climate crisis mitigation to be more ambitious. For the proposal to establish the National Research Consortium, UNAIR representatives received an award from IUCC.
Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Sc. (center) and Savira Rizma Yunita, SM. (second from right) received appreciation from the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) on the second day of IUCC, Wednesday (30/03/2022).
"The focus of the recommendations given by UNAIR to the government in efforts to reduce the risk of the climate crisis lies in the mitigation and funding aspects." Savira said. This mitigation aspect is implemented through efforts to accelerate the use of various types of new, renewable energy (EBT). EBT is an alternative solution being considered, because energy derived from fossil fuels produces high greenhouse gas emissions, thereby exacerbating the risk of climate change. EBT can contribute not only to mitigating the climate crisis, but also improving the community's economy. This idea was also outlined in a publication paper which was read during the conference.
