The Scientific Writing Symposium is a series of activities at the 2018 National Scientific Meeting/Temilnas XVII FoSSEI (Islamic Economic Study Gathering Forum) which took place at the North Sumatra State Islamic University, Medan. Temilnas FoSSEI has been held every year since 2001, exactly a year after FoSSEI was formed in 2000, this activity includes the Islamic Economics Olympiad; Video Profile; Business Plan and Scientific Writing Symposium which is a national level event. In 2018, Temilnas raised the theme "Optimizing Socio-Techno Finance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development". This aims to take advantage of the momentum of the development of Financial Technology in Indonesia which is predicted to be an effective solution in payment, financing and marketing systems for businesses. Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are the backbone of the Indonesian economy.

The Scientific Writing Symposium began with submission of full papers from 6 January to 20 February 2018, followed by a selection process from 21 to 27 February 2018, the selection process produced 33 best teams in 3 subthemes (11 finalists were selected for each subtheme). In this case, Universitas Airlangga was represented by 3 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business in 1 team, namely Yuliandi Fikri , 2015 Development Economics as Team Leader, with 2 members , Irma Yanti and Fready Wijaya , 2017 Development Economics study program . The Unair Team is included in the Second Subtheme, namely Trade. Presentations, discussions with the jury and continued with a scientific writing symposium were held on 26 – 28 March 2018 and ended with the announcement of the winners at the Gala Dinner on 28 March 2018 which took place at the Ambarkasi Haji Dormitory, Medan, North Sumatra. Praise be to God, the Unair team received the award for Best Presentation at Commission 2, this was an extraordinary learning and experience when meeting with university friends from almost all over Indonesia.
