The National Islamic Economic Olympiad is one of a series of events at the Gunadarma Sharia Economic Event (GSENT) 2018. GSENT itself is a grand event held every year by the Sharia Economic Forum (SEF) Faculty of Economics and Business, Gunadarma University. Carrying the theme "Revitalize the Role of Islam in Realizing Indonesia as One of the Largest Economies in the World" which is currently hot among students, GSENT aims to accommodate students who are interested in Islamic economics to improve their intellect and abilities in the process of achieving a common goal, namely grounding Islamic economics in Indonesia. This activity is also a meeting place for the best students from all universities throughout Indonesia.
The National Islamic Economic Olympiad consists of several stages, namely the preliminary stage, semifinals and grand final as the peak event which was held at Gunadarma University Depok, on 18-21 April 2018. However, long before the peak event, the participants had to go through the preliminary stage by send essays and take virtual tests online . The preliminary stage was carried out from January to March to collect essays with the theme "Realizing Maqashid Al-Shariah to Achieve Economic Justice through Islamic Philanthropy" . After the preliminary stage was completed, the 12 best teams were announced who had the right to qualify for the semifinal stage at Gunadarma University. The 12 best teams from all universities in Indonesia who successfully passed the semifinal stage included 3 teams from Universitas Airlangga , 2 teams from the Bogor Agricultural Institute, Hasanudin University, Semarang State University, Gunadarma University, UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University, STEI Tazkia, and Brawijaya University.
The semifinal stage held at Gunadarma University consisted of a written test, open discussion and case study . In this series of Olympiads, all participants are prohibited from mentioning the identity of their home campus for objectivity in the assessment. This written test round aims to test the semifinalists' level of ability and understanding regarding knowledge of Islamic economics and conventional economics. Open discussion is the second semifinal series after the written test. In open discussion , it was divided into two groups with a discussion theme, namely, "Islamic Capitalism: Hugged or Beaten?" . Each team is given the opportunity to present their arguments guided by a moderator. At this stage, it is hoped that each individual from the group will try to demonstrate their skills in arguing and be supported by valid data.
In the middle of the semifinal series, participants also took part in an international seminar which was part of the 2018 GSENT series of events. This international seminar raised the theme of Financial Technology . The final round of the semifinal series is a case study . Each team is entitled to one case that must be answered, followed by a question and answer session with the jury. What's unique about case study is that each team gets a case from a video provided by the committee on several themes, namely sharia banking, sharia capital markets, Islamic microfinance , Islamic philanthropy (ZISWAF), and Islamic macroeconomics. Apart from the mandatory questions, there are two contest questions which are given after all participants have finished answering the mandatory questions. The case study round is a round that really tests participants' sensitivity regarding the hottest issues of Islamic economics because with 2 minutes case building the case study given by the committee.
After the semifinal series was completed, it was announced that four of the twelve teams had the right to advance to the final round. Universitas Airlangga teams managed to qualify for the grand final with members Abdul Kafi (Islamic Economics Study Program, 2016), Evi Aninatin Ni'Matul Choiriyah (Islamic Economics Study Program, 2016) and Salma Fioren Salsabella (Islamic Economics Study Program, 2016) as the Team 1 and Rizka Lailatu Millah (Development Economics Study Program, 2015), Muhammad Ruliszar (Management Study Program, 2016), and Muhammad Bachrul Ulum Fanani (Accounting Study Program, 2015) as Team 2. The grand final was very exclusive because in this round the Finalists are given a case which must be presented at a student conference which is attended by students, practitioners, Islamic economics activists and figures. The case given by the committee refers to the big theme of GSENT, namely "Revitalize the Role of Islam in Realizing Indonesia as One of the Largest Economies in the World" . Finalists were given 10 minutes for presentations and 20 minutes for questions and answers with the jury and conference participants. This session provided an opportunity for all conference participants to exchange ideas and concepts regarding Islamic economics.
With a short time, namely less than 24 hours, GSENT Olympiad finalists are required to create a framework that leads to a solution to given case The FEB Unair team received the case "How is Islamic philanthropy able to guarantee hifdzul aql?" . In fact, if we talk about Islamic philanthropy, of course we will be connected to the ZISWAF instrument (zakat, infaq, shadaqah and waqf) which will be used as a tool to guarantee the achievement of hifdzul aql .
The grand final of the National Islamic Economic Olympiad closed with the announcement of the winners. Universitas Airlangga team won 1st place (Abdul Kafi, Evi Aninatin Ni'Matul Choiriyah and Salma Fioren Salsabella) and 3rd place (Rizka Lailatul Millah, Muhammad Ruliszar and Muhammad Bachrul Ulum Fanani).
Thank God, by achieving this achievement, the FEB Unair delegation hopes to be able to show that the glory and glory of Islamic economics can be re-established. With this achievement, they also hope that many students will be inspired and moved to take part in the competition to make their alma mater proud. Many students are capable and smart, but are still reluctant and embarrassed to take part in competitions. They have great hopes to continue to influence and provide benefits to the surrounding environment. While there is still a chance to make your alma mater proud, why not?
For all Islamic economics fighters and Universitas Airlangga , they adhere to the principles, "Moving is tiring, but remaining silent is more embarrassing" and "The path of preaching is difficult, if there is an easy path of preaching we will definitely go the wrong way" . They always adhere to these two principles to continue to excel and strive to make their beloved alma mater proud. Many people are intelligent, but if the knowledge they gain is not utilized, what's the point? The blessings of knowledge can be realized by implementing it. Have fun and enjoy the process with full confidence! ()
