SURYA.CO.ID | SURABAYA - Having family members requires special expenses for health, inspiring the Best Graduate of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Airlangga , Afanin Husna in completing his studies.
"My father had a stroke and my younger brother has special needs. So at home only my mother works, while expenses remain constant and increase for my father and younger brother's medical costs. That's what inspired me," said the winner of the Cumulative Achievement Index (GPA), which is something to be proud of, namely This 3.88.
He also looked for literature related to health economics and found a topic that suited what was happening in my family.
Even though it was not easy, he decided to take a multidisciplinary thesis topic. Namely Analysis of Determinants of Catastrophic Health Expenditure (CHE) in Indonesia.
"Depending on health economics, CHE is a condition where health expenditure exceeds the threshold of total household expenditure," he said.
He added that households with this condition often have to go into debt, sell assets, and many other things.
"Compiling this thesis was full of struggle because multidisciplinary topics are rarely discussed, so I had to diligently search for literature," said the student from Surabaya.
He also started by reading the thesis of his senior brother. Even though there is very little data, he decided to continue with this topic, especially since the topic of health economics is also booming, especially since there is a pandemic like this.
"I also discussed this topic with my friends at the public health faculty. There were also difficulties with the data. I researched at the household level, so I had to use micro data, the processing of which is more complicated than macro data," he explained.
Afanin's hard work finally paid off, he even continued his thesis topic as a thesis in the fast track program he took.
