Abstract
Stress is the inability to make psychological, physical and behavioral adjustments to an activity, situation or event with a perceived excessive capacity for demands. The competitive work environment and big city life can cause stress. This research focuses on the influence of the work environment on staff stress at PT. Tirta Investama Surabaya. The work environment in question is the physical environment (room temperature, room lighting, noise, density of occupants), group (relationships with co-workers, relationships with superiors, relationships with subordinates), Individual (role ambiguity, role conflict, excessive workload) as well as organizational (organizational structure, policy regulations applied). This research aims to find out whether the work environment has a significant influence on the stress of company staff both jointly and partially, as well as to see whether there is a significant difference in stress between staff with type A characteristics and staff with type B characteristics. used in this research is Multiple Regression Analysis and a test of the difference between two means (Independent Sample T Test). The results of this research found that the work environment that has an influence on staff stress at PT. Tirta Investama Surabaya is excessive workload and relationships with co-workers. . Excessive workload makes the biggest contribution to stress, this situation occurs because of the increasing number of customers and competitors. Furthermore, this research also found that there was a significant difference in stress between staff with type A characteristics and staff with type B characteristics
