Abstract

This research analyzes the influence of family control on company performance with corporate governance as a moderating variable. In this research, corporate governance is measured using three proxies, namely the proportion of independent commissioners, size of the board of commissioners and institutional ownership. The sample for this research is manufacturing sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the 2012-2018 period with 433 observations. This research finds that family control has a significant negative effect on company performance. Other results from this research show that corporate governance which is proxied by the proportion of independent commissioners and size of the board of commissioners significantly weakens the negative influence of family control on company performance, while corporate governance which is proxied by institutional ownership does not significantly weaken the negative influence of family control on company performance.
