Abstract

This research is intended to identify the profile of work-value patterns among Yogyakarta's educated employees, as well as to find out how they influence job satisfaction. The work-value pattern contains work-value elements which are arranged hierarchically according to their degree of importance. The work-value pattern profile describes the priority importance of which work-value elements are given more attention, and which ones are given relatively less attention by a person at work. This research is aimed at finding out whether or not there is an influence of work-value patterns on job satisfaction, and to find out whether or not there are differences in job satisfaction between educated male and female employees in Yogyakarta. The research sample was aimed at 146 students participating in postgraduate programs who were already working in the city of Yogyakarta. The tool used to reveal work values is based on the theory developed by Lofquist and Dawis (1978), and the score used to measure job satisfaction was adapted in Indonesian from the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSC) compiled by Weiss, et al. (1967) . In data analysis, multiple linear regression statistical techniques were used at a significance level (alpha) of 5% to measure the influence of work-value patterns on job satisfaction. The t-test (T-test) at a significance level of (-) 5% is used to determine whether there are differences in job satisfaction or not. The research results show that; (1) the work-value pattern of Yogyakarta educated employees is dominated by achievement work-values, then successively followed by safety, comfort, progress, social, and finally independence, (2) the dominant work-value pattern of male educated employees is achievement work-values and progress, while for female employees the work values are safety and achievement, (3) the work value elements of achievement, progress, safety, comfort and independence among educated Yogyakarta employees together have a significant influence on job satisfaction, (4) The performance value variable has the most dominant influence among other independent variables on the dependent variable of job satisfaction, and (5) there is a significant difference in job satisfaction between male and female educated employees in Yogyakarta
