Abstract

One of the main causes of the increase in the number of unemployed is that the number of job opportunities is not balanced with the number of applicants or job seekers. The population of Indonesia in 2018 is estimated to reach 265 million people (Bappenas, 2013). The Central Statistics Agency noted that there were quite large numbers of unemployed college graduates and this increased from August 2016 to February 2018 (BPS, 2018). Increasing the number of entrepreneurs is considered to be one solution to reducing unemployment. This research aims to determine the positive influence of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on entrepreneurial intention directly or through attitude towards entrepreneurship, perceived entrepreneurial control, and subjective norms. It is hoped that the results of this research can provide suggestions for higher education institutions and the government to motivate the younger generation, especially students, to have an entrepreneurial spirit so that they are interested in becoming entrepreneurs. The results of this research show that entrepreneurial self-efficacy has a direct positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial intention. Then, attitude towards entrepreneurship and subjective norms were proven to play a mediating role in the positive and significant relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. Based on these results, the mediating role of attitude towards entrepreneurship and subjective norms is partial mediation. Furthermore, perceived entrepreneurial control is not proven to play a mediating role in the positive relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention.

Keywords: Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy, Attitude Towards Entrepreneurship, Perceived Entrepreneurial Control, Subjective Norms
