Abstract

The era of globalization has resulted in an increasingly open competitive climate in all fields. Especially in business, the demands of organizations to always compete will be increasingly high. If previously we only competed nationally, now we have to compete with the global market. In contrast to the era of globalization which requires organizations to develop and utilize their Human Resources (HR) as fully as possible. Currently, organizations are experiencing a scarcity of quality and competent resources, where competition continues to increase. This causes organizations to manage HR effectively. There are several things that are currently becoming problems in HR management, including employee engagement or work engagement. The level of employee engagement can be influenced by the suitability of their work values ​​with the company's work values. Apart from work values, employees also have the need to fulfill their basic psychological needs which must be met. The aim of this research is to see the influence of work values ​​on work engagement with basic need satisfaction as a mediating variable. The variables in this study were measured by a survey of 32 respondents at PT. Toyota Astra Auto 2000 Sidoarjo branch with Partial Least Square (PLS) statistical tools. The results of this study show that work values ​​have a significant positive influence on work engagement, and basic need satisfaction does not have a significant influence on work engagement. Based on these results, basic need satisfaction is not proven to be a mediating variable for work values ​​on work engagement. Based on these results, it is hoped that it can become input for company management to manage work values ​​and basic employee psychological needs to increase employee work engagement.
