Abstract

The presence of new, young leaders, especially in the plant department, in the last two years has given color to the leadership style at PG Semboro. In the same time span, the board of directors formulated and reintroduced the vision, mission and culture of the organization. During that period, the performance of the plant section at PG Semboro appeared to show the highest achievement since the remelt carbonatase system was implemented in terms of the amount of sugar cane milled and yield, however in terms of production per hectare it was not able to reach its proper potential. This potential production per hectare has not yet been achieved, which is an evaluation material for management to achieve added value. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the influence of leadership style and organizational culture on the performance of the garden foreman as the spearhead of the plant department in the field with job satisfaction as an intervening variable. To test this problem, questionnaires were distributed to 35 permanent plantation foremen of the Semboro Sugar Factory. The collected data was then analyzed using partial least square analysis techniques using smartPLS 2.0. It was shown that leadership style had a positive and significant effect on performance. Organizational culture also has a positive and significant effect on performance. Leadership style positively and significantly influences performance both directly and indirectly through job satisfaction, and organizational culture positively and significantly influences performance both directly and indirectly through job satisfaction. On the basis of these results, managerial advice that can be implemented is to apply a caretaker leadership style and a task-oriented style and create and maintain the involvement of the garden foreman in the organizational culture, in line with providing a level of job satisfaction felt by the garden foreman so that in the end it will improve the performance of the garden foreman by hope to be able to achieve sugarcane production per hectare according to the potential of existing varieties.
