Abstract

Construction services is a sector that plays an important role in Indonesia's development and is one of the strategic industries. The role of the construction services sector, especially the development of road and bridge infrastructure, is considered important in relation to the country's economic growth. The growth of the construction sector in Indonesia is above the average economic growth in the last 5 years. PT. Mitra Setya Utama (PT. MSU) is a private company engaged in road and bridge construction work based in Jakarta. This company, which is classified as a small company, is starting to steal attention in the world of road and bridge construction with its Simultaneous Jacking System, a technological innovation that they implemented in working on bridge lifting projects. Until now PT. MSU does not yet have a competitive strategy to apply within its organization so that with the company's potential, its achievements are still not optimal. Therefore, this research aims to design a competitive strategy that can be implemented at PT. Mitra Setya Utama to be able to achieve competitive advantage in the future. This research uses external factor analysis using PEST analysis and internal factor analysis using VRIO so that company resources can be identified which can be a competitive strength for PT.MSU. The researcher then correlated the results of the analysis of internal and external factors with the TOWS matrix to obtain a competitive strategy design for PT.MSU. Company strategy that can be implemented at PT. Mitra Setya Utama in an effort to improve its competitive strategy, namely: (1) increasing production of SJS equipment so that PT. MSU is able to work on more projects at one time; (2) increasing the skills of technicians through collaboration with construction service development institutions related to technical training and the use of the latest technology in road and bridge work; (3) developing the latest technological innovations in the field of road and bridge work to increase cost efficiency; (4) expanding the market by participating in tenders for road and bridge project work outside DKI Jakarta; (5) improving the company's reputation by maintaining and prioritizing work quality; (6) protect innovative products created by registering copyrights or patents; (7) collaborate with large construction companies so that PT. MSU can undertake prestigious projects with minimal capital; (8) evaluate and improve the project management control system periodically to increase efficiency and productivity.
