Abstract

In a business, profit maximization is a principle that needs to be used so that the continuity of a business can continue. The existence of limited operational mechanisms, both in terms of time and location in the market, which moves according to the current market day, indirectly influences the potential profits that can be obtained by market traders. This research seeks to reveal the meaning of profit from the perspective of market traders moving according to existing habits, traditions and culture. This research uses a qualitative approach with realist ethnographic methods which tries to dig deeper into the meaning of profit in moving markets. Data collection techniques used the Creswell method and ethnographic interview techniques followed Spradley's steps. The results of this research show that the meaning of profit refers to two forms, namely (1) material profit in the form of cash business results which can be enjoyed directly to fulfill various life goals; (2) non-material profits in the form of profits in the form of kinship ties. With all the limitations and characteristics inherent in mobile markets, this does not change the fact that the more mobile market locations that traders visit, the more social interactions they have, the more profits they obtain, both in material and non-material forms.
