UNAIR NEWS – This year's inauguration procession for Universitas Airlangga students went differently than usual. Due to the pandemic, for the first time, the inauguration of 6,875 new students was carried out online.

The Chancellor of Universitas Airlangga Prof. Moh Nasih, confirmed the new undergraduate and diploma level students on Tuesday (1/9/2020). They are new students for the 2020/2021 academic year.

A total of 6,875 new students confirmed in Batch 1 came from various regions in Indonesia. Among the furthest are from Banda Aceh, Tarakan, Ternate, Jayapura, Sitaro Islands and Belu.

UNAIR Chancellor said that UNAIR's new student acceptance capacity for 2020 was 7,225. All of this capacity will be fully filled through Batch 2.

"There are 1,126 students who are Indonesian Smart-College Card (KIP-K) holders," said the Chancellor.

In 2020, UNAIR's KIP-K quota will reach 1,400 students. The largest KIP-K enrollment this year came from the Mandiri pathway, which reached more than 500 students.

Among the confirmed students, Gusti Bazilia Callysta Dzakwan is the youngest new student at 15 years old. The girl who was born on January 5 2005 was accepted into the English Literature study program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB).

For the D3 Nursing study program in Gresik and Lamongan, 99 percent are KIP-K holders. The Chancellor said that this was part of an effort to provide opportunities for the best students to study at UNAIR.

Meanwhile, for students who have not re-registered for financial reasons, UNAIR provides the opportunity to extend their re-registration.

“We hope that parents and students who have any difficulties will communicate with us. "Later we will facilitate it," said the Chancellor.

At the inauguration of the new students, the Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, was present online to give a speech. Airlangga Hartarto gave a message to new students to start living independently.

On that occasion, Airlagga Hartarto gave a message for new students to take part in extracurricular activities because these activities will hone their soft skills.

“For young students, the early days of college are a transition period. Study conditions will be much different from those in high school. So younger siblings must be independent," he said.

Airlangga Hartarto also gave messages and encouragement because the current struggle is more difficult because we are experiencing a pandemic. The Corona virus, for which there is no vaccine yet, forces us to carry out our teaching activities online. (*)
