As a professional association that oversees all accountants in Indonesia, the Indonesian Institute of Accountants (IAI) has a program to make IAI a center for professional development for aspiring professional accountants, by increasing the scope of Aspiring Professional Accountants activities. Aspiring Professional Accountant is a term used by the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to define aspiring professional accountants who go through a learning and development process, in order to have the competencies to carry out their role as a professional accountant. The quality and quantity of Aspiring Professional Accountants are central points in determining the future of the accounting profession in order to realize a better profession, contribute to the country and to create a better world. To ensure the professionalism of Indonesian accountants, IAI expects accounting students throughout Indonesia to prepare their future well amidst the dynamics of the current environment. Since 2017, IAI has held the Aspiring Professional Accountants Festival (APAFest) as an annual event gathering outstanding students from all over Indonesia to showcase their achievements, creativity, and academic abilities to compete to be the best and get the opportunity to connect and get work opportunities in various leading entities that have partnered as IAI Corporate Partners. In 2020, for the second time, IAI will hold a national selection of outstanding accounting students to receive the National Aspiring Professional Accountant Award as the top award at APAFest 2020.
The Indonesian Institute of Accounting (IAI) invites all universities in Indonesia to hold a university-level selection or competition to select one of the best accounting students from each university. Representatives from each university in a province will then participate in a tiered selection process at the provincial level conducted by the IAI. The top scorers in the provincial selection stage will become finalists to compete nationally for the award for the best-performing accounting student in Indonesia.
