(BEM NEWS) – In an effort to instill a basic understanding of the concept of added value in the world of economics from an early age, the Community Service Department of BEM FEB Universitas Airlangga held the Ruang Abdi Vol.1 program entitled “Warna Nomi (Economic Value Roleplay Vehicle)” on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Carrying the tagline “Raise Your Value with Creativity”, this activity was held at Taman Paliatif, Surabaya, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Save Street Child Surabaya (SSC.Surabaya).
This program is aimed at children in grades 4 through 6 of elementary school who are members of the SSC.Surabaya community. Through a practical and fun approach, children are encouraged to understand the concept of added value and economic processes through art and role-playing.
The activity began with a session on decorating tote bags as the base product. Afterward, participants participated in a mini-exhibition to present their work in a format similar to a sales process. At the end of the session, facilitators guided a group reflection, encouraging the children to understand how creativity can enhance the value of a product.
The event was attended by representatives from SSC Surabaya, the BEM FEB UNAIR committee, and student volunteers who acted as facilitators. The participants' enthusiasm was evident in their active involvement in every stage of the event—from decorating and selling to presenting unique ideas related to their respective works.
In essence, Ruang Abdi Vol. 1 contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically points 4 (Quality Education) and 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth). This program is a concrete manifestation of early economic literacy and the empowerment of vulnerable communities through an inclusive and creative educational approach.
Documentation of the activities, captured through photos and videos, demonstrates the children's enthusiasm, educational interactions, and the collaborative atmosphere between students and the community. This program emphasizes that community service is not just about giving, but also about growing and learning together. Through Ruang Abdi Vol. 1, BEM FEB UNAIR demonstrates its commitment as an agent of change, providing down-to-earth, applicable, and meaningful alternative education.
