Abstract
Waqf in Islam is not merely a religious activity, but also part of the Islamic financial system that can become a source of social and religious funds if managed professionally. Various studies and research have integrated waqf into Islamic social finance that can alleviate poverty and improve the welfare of the community. In Islamic history, waqf has played a central role and fully supports the development of education, such as Al-Azhar in Egypt, which is part of the history of waqf success to this day. The same system was then developed by various educational institutions around the world, for example, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cambridge, the Islamic University of Indonesia, Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor (Pondok Modern Gontor), and others. The success of Pondok Modern Gontor in empowering its waqf assets has attracted researchers to propose a waqf Islamic boarding school management model and diagnose various obstacles and barriers in its implementation using a management function approach that includes planning, organizing, leadership, and controlling. Then, proposals, solutions, and improvement programs are proposed, and the results can become a blueprint for waqf management in the waqf Islamic boarding school environment. This model is urgent, considering the large number of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, reaching approximately 26,000 institutions. This modified action research approach was conducted in five stages: diagnosing the management of the Pondok Modern Gontor waqf Islamic boarding school, creating an action plan (action planning), implementing the action plan (action taking), evaluating (evaluating), and reflecting on learning (learning) in a single cycle. The results of this study indicate that the Pondok Modern Gontor waqf Islamic boarding school management model was developed in the form of an enterprise that is applied in various business sectors. This model produces high waqf benefits and can meet the operational needs of Pondok Modern Gontor independently. However, at the same time, the empowerment of the Islamic boarding school waqf assets does not yet have enterprise standards, adequate human resources, and extensive networking, which is a barrier to its development. Furthermore, the research problem is solved by optimizing internal potential in collaboration with universities, institutions, institutions, and organizations that have good process control in the problem. Next, the development proposal is implemented in stages, starting with education, realization, and initiation that are in accordance with the values and religious culture that underlie all activities and activities of Pondok Modern Gontor. Overall, it can be stated that the management of the Pondok Modern Gontor Islamic boarding school (pesantren waqf) has unique characteristics, integrating classical methods with modern scientific ones. It is managed traditionally yet open to modernity, making it easy and open to various necessary adjustments. Therefore, the Pondok Modern Gontor Islamic boarding school (pesantren waqf) management model is relevant for use as a model for maintaining and developing the assets of both the Islamic boarding school (pesantren waqf) and the Islamic boarding school (pesantren) that manages the waqf simultaneously.
