Abstract

Construction services is a sector that plays a vital role in Indonesia's development and is one of the strategic industries. The role of the construction services sector, especially the construction of road and bridge infrastructure, is considered crucial in relation to the country's economic growth. The growth of the construction sector in Indonesia has been above the average economic growth in the last 5 years. PT. Mitra Setya Utama (PT. MSU) is a private company engaged in road and bridge construction based in Jakarta. This small company has begun to attract attention in the world of road and bridge construction with the Simultaneous Jacking System, a technological innovation they implemented in bridge lifting projects. Until now, PT. MSU has not had a competitive strategy to be applied within its organization so that with the company's potential, its achievements are still considered less than optimal. Therefore, this study aims to design a competitive strategy that can be implemented at PT. Mitra Setya Utama to be able to achieve competitive advantage in the future. This study uses external factor analysis using PEST analysis and internal factor analysis using VRIO so that it can identify company resources that can become competitive strengths for PT. MSU. The researcher then correlated the results of the analysis of internal and external factors with the TOWS matrix to obtain a competitive strategy design for PT. MSU. The company strategies that can be implemented at PT. Mitra Setya Utama in an effort to improve competitive strategies are: (1) increasing the production of SJS equipment so that PT. MSU is able to work on more projects at one time; (2) improving the capabilities of technicians through collaboration with construction service development institutions related to technical training and the use of the latest technology in road and bridge work; (3) developing the latest technological innovations in the field of road and bridge work to increase cost efficiency; (4) expanding the market by participating in tenders for road and bridge project work outside DKI Jakarta; (5) improving the company's reputation by maintaining and prioritizing the quality of work; (6) protecting innovative products made by registering copyrights or patents; (7) collaborating with large construction companies so that PT. MSU can work on prestigious projects with minimal capital; (8) conducting periodic evaluations and improvements to the project management control system to increase efficiency and productivity.
