NET ZERO EMISSIONS WEBINAR

Building Climate Awareness Through Webinars and E-Conversation Discussions: The FEB UNAIR Undergraduate Economics Student Association Discusses Net-Zero Emissions

(HIMA S1IE NEWS) Climate change is no longer an issue that can be ignored, especially by the younger generation. Governments around the world, including Indonesia, continue to strive to minimize its impact. Recognizing the importance of climate education, the Economics Student Association (HIMA S1 IE) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) held a webinar entitled "Achieving Net Zero Emissions: Aligning Government Policies with Economic Growth and Environmental Sustainability" on Saturday, May 10, 2025, online via Zoom.

This activity aims to broaden students' insights on how to bridge economic growth with environmental sustainability. The webinar featured two keynote speakers: Ade Sulaeman from the Sayapilihbumi community, who is also an editor for National Geographic Indonesia, and Gabriella Gunawan, Coordinator of the Renewable Energy and Events Division at the Surabaya Clean Energy Generation community and founder of Surabaya Epik. The discussion was moderated by Nabila Candrika Putri, an Economics student from the Faculty of Economics and Business, Airlangga University.

The webinar opened with remarks from the Coordinator of the Economics Study Program, FEB UNAIR, Rumayya, SE, M.Reg. Dev., Ph.D., and the Chair of the HIMA Economics Study Program, Atha Zaky Handika Putra

In the first presentation, Ade Sulaeman explained the concept of Net Zero Emissions (NZE), its implementation in Indonesia and other countries, and the challenges faced in achieving it. He also touched on the role of the Green Economy as a strategic approach to NZE.

The next session was delivered by Gabriella Gunawan, who highlighted the importance of creative industry involvement in achieving NZE. She also emphasized the importance of utilizing renewable energy as a key solution that the government can implement.

The interactive discussion and question-and-answer session were the most anticipated part. Participants enthusiastically asked questions about climate policy and concrete steps that need to be taken. Both speakers responded enthusiastically, even sparking arguments that enriched the discussion.

The webinar continued with an interactive quiz session on the Quizizz platform. Participants with the highest scores received prizes in the form of digital wallet (e-wallet) balances. The final session included a keynote discussion, attendance, and an evaluation questionnaire to provide feedback from participants.

The Inconomix program demonstrates a commitment to supporting sustainable development through inclusive education that addresses global issues. By presenting topics such as energy transition and the importance of emissions reduction, this activity broadens students' understanding of environmental challenges while strengthening their critical thinking and writing skills. Collaboration with communities working in clean energy and environmental conservation also strengthens the spirit of cross-sector synergy in promoting a green economy and a sustainable future.
