UNAIR STRENGTHENS MICRO-ENTERPRISES THROUGH CERTIFICATION, BUSINESS ETHICS, AND DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

( FEB NEWS – SDG's NEWS) Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) through the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) reaffirmed its commitment to community empowerment through International Community Service as part of the series of The 9th International Conference and Ph.D. Colloquium for Economics and Business (ICEB 2025) . This community service activity was held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, in Surabaya, and was attended by micro-entrepreneurs from various regions of East Java.

This program presents five speakers from various national and international institutions who have expertise in the fields of micro-entrepreneurship, business certification, business ethics, and digital transformation, namely:

  • Dr. Lailan Tawila Berampu, SE, M.Si. (University of Riau), who presented material on the urgency of micro-business certification as a guarantee of quality and consumer trust.
  • Prof. Dr. Gancar Candra Premananto (Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga), who explained the importance of implementing ethics in micro-businesses as a foundation for sustainable business development. "All prophets were also entrepreneurs," he said, reminding us that branding is key to building consumer trust.
  • Lilik Rohmawati, SE, M.Sc. (Diponegoro University), encouraged business owners to utilize digital platforms like Tokopedia, Shopee, Instagram, and Facebook to expand their market reach.
  • Dr. Luh Gde Meydianawathi, SE, M.Sc. (Udayana University), who presented strategies for MSMEs to adapt to digitalization to increase business resilience and growth.
  • Dr. Vasilios Stouraitis (Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom), who rounded off the session with insights on the importance of building a solid team in the digital transformation process for MSMEs, said, "Digitalization isn't just about software or applications; it's also about developing adaptable human resources."

This activity aims to equip MSMEs with practical and strategic understanding to improve their competitiveness and business sustainability. Topics such as certification, branding ethics, and the use of digital technology are presented in interactive discussions that are easy to understand and immediately applicable to participants. This program is not only educational but also serves as a bridge between academics and business actors in collaboratively responding to business challenges.

This activity was carried out in a hybrid manner, as an integral part of the second day of the ICEB 2025 implementation which took place at Campus B FEB UNAIR.

International Community Service activity reflects FEB UNAIR's active role in supporting community economic development and strengthening the capacity of micro-entrepreneurs through a knowledge-based approach and cross-border collaboration. This initiative aligns with the principles of sustainable development, particularly in improving the quality of education, empowering local economies, and fostering global partnerships. These efforts also strengthen the institution's contribution to bridging academic and social boundaries and delivering measurable and sustainable positive impacts on society.
