An interesting sight was seen in the parking lot in front of the MM FEB Unair building on Thursday, September 15, 2016. What is usually seen as a luxury car park, turned out to be several becaks parked there. MM FEB Universitas Airlangga once again held an innovative event. As a form of commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of MM FEB Unair and the commemoration of Eid al-Adha, named "Dhahar Sate with Abang Becak" MM FEB Unair hosted dozens of becak drivers for lunch together. In addition to eating together, the activity continued with congregational prayers, reading of the holy verses of the Qur'an by one of the Becak Drivers and what was interesting was examining the concept of sustenance from the perspective of a Becak driver.
The speakers were pedicab drivers, who conveyed the meaning of sustenance. Amidst the current developments that have marginalized their position, the presence of online transportation services has made pedicab services less of a primary choice for consumers. The uncertainty of daily pedicab riders, and the many consumers who are willing to cheat and offer free rides, make understanding the concept of sustenance an interesting topic to understand.
Many things can be gleaned from the pedicab drivers, including that sustenance is not only a matter of wealth; pious children, given health and life are also part of the sustenance for which they are grateful. They also believe that sustenance is full of miracles, as was the miracle of sustenance from the feet of the Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him), despite the tireless efforts of his mother Hajar in seeking sustenance.
Another issue that emerged was related to spiritual management, namely making work activities a form of worship. Starting with the simple thing of performing ablution before starting work.
The above various things made the lunch with the Pedicab Drivers meaningful for all participants. And also provides a learning effect on spiritual management and informal economy for MM FEB Unair.
