(FEB NEWS) The Entrepreneur Day activity which is routinely held every Friday once again brings applied learning for students. This time, the Department of Islamic Economics FEB UNAIR held a Guest Lecture by presenting Asikin Ashar, SEI, MSEI, Deputy Head of the East Java Region of the Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI), located at the KRT Fadjar Notonagoro Hall, 2nd Floor FEB UNAIR. This activity was opened by the Vice Dean I of FEB UNAIR, Prof. Dr. Tika Widiastuti, and was attended by students with great enthusiasm.
This guest lecture discusses the stock trading system on the Indonesia Stock Exchange comprehensively, starting from the basic concepts of shares, price formation mechanisms, to direct practice of transactions through stock trading applications.
Entering the material session moderated by Dr. Puji Sucia Sukmaningrum, SE, CiFP, Secretary of the Department of Islamic Economics, the atmosphere in the hall felt dynamic and interactive. The resource person not only presented theory but also presented inspiring stories of world figures such as David Beckham and Roger Federer who chose stock ownership as a long-term strategy for building wealth. Students were encouraged to understand that stocks are not merely speculative instruments, but rather proof of ownership of companies with the potential for growth in value.
As an alumnus of Universitas AirlanggaBachelor of Islamic Economics and Master of Science in Islamic Economics, Asikin Ashar demonstrates how Islamic economics can coexist with modern capital market practices. Since 2014, he has served as Deputy Head of the East Java Region of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) and holds certifications as a Securities Broker-Dealer Representative (WPPE) and Securities Underwriter Representative (WPEE), further strengthening his competence as a capital market practitioner.
In his presentation, he detailed the price priority and time priority mechanisms, the auto-rejection system, trading hours, and the transaction fee structure for buying and selling shares. Students were also shown data on the significant growth of investors in the Indonesian capital market, particularly among the younger generation.
"The capital market is a means of building a long-term vision. Young people must begin to understand how money works and how to manage risk.".
In her remarks, Prof. Dr. Tila Widiastuti emphasized the importance of strengthening financial literacy for students to prepare them for facing the increasingly competitive dynamics of the industry. She stated that understanding capital markets, both conventional and sharia, is no longer merely an added value, but rather a fundamental requirement in producing graduates who are adaptive, responsive to global developments, and able to seize career opportunities in the financial and investment sectors. She believes that FEB UNAIR students must be able to integrate academic understanding with practical insights to be ready to compete in the professional world.
The practical session was the most engaging part of the activity. Students were invited to open the stock trading application and explore the market features, watchlist, price movement charts, and virtual trading simulations. Through these virtual simulations, students gained a comprehensive understanding of the stock trading system on the IDX.
The students' enthusiasm was evident when they asked for a live example of purchasing shares in PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM). The resource person then demonstrated how to read bid and offer prices, determine the number of lots (minimum 1 lot = 100 shares), calculate the estimated funds needed, and estimate transaction costs such as brokerage commissions and taxes.
Through this simulation, students learned that stock purchase decisions must consider market price, transaction volume, and personal risk profile. The resource person also emphasized the importance of analysis before purchasing stocks, both fundamentally and technically.
This activity is a concrete manifestation of contextual learning that does not only stop at theory in class, but also equips students with practical skills in understanding the dynamics of the capital market.
This guest lecture affirmed FEB UNAIR's commitment to providing education relevant to developments in the national financial industry. Capital market literacy and hands-on practice are essential tools for students to build financial independence in the future.
Through Entrepreneur Day, students not only learn to become outstanding academics, but also future investors and economic actors who are intelligent, adaptive, and visionary.
