UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga through the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), received a visit from the Indonesian Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU). The visit, led by KPPU Chairman Kurnia Toha, was welcomed by UNAIR Rector Prof. Nasih and other officials in the rector's office on Friday, May 17.
During the visit, the KPPU chairman, accompanied by several staff members, outlined the various objectives of the visit. One of them was the upcoming MoU with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Airlangga University (UNAIR). Kurnia, as he is familiarly known, stated that the KPPU's performance still requires significant improvement, particularly in institutional branding and its functional performance as an independent institution.
"Many people think we're part of the KPU, but we're very different. Therefore, we need to collaborate with universities so the public can better understand the KPPU's role and function," he said.
Regarding the collaboration focused on economics, the UI Faculty of Law graduate explained that the institution he leads will add an Economics Directorate. This, he explained, is due to the crucial role of experts in economic studies in improving the quality of performance within the KPPU.
"For this reason, we are collaborating with FEB to provide us with input, guidance, and research results," he concluded.
Furthermore, Kurnia continued, the role of economics academics is expected to significantly improve the institutional performance of the KPPU, particularly by providing input, direction, and even the best advice for the institution and the government.
"Many of the KPPU's problems relate to economic issues, and therefore, it requires research assistance from university academics. And I hope that in the future, comprehensive studies will be produced to address each issue," he explained.
In closing, Kurnia reiterated that future collaboration with FEB UNAIR could also be implemented in the form of discussions, seminars, or book writing. Kurnia emphasized that all of this collaboration is for the public good.
"The input and opinions we provide to the government are nothing more than our collective efforts to provide benefits to the public," he concluded.
