The International Conference on Future Healthcare and Economic Development is a series of international conference activities organized by National Cheng Kung University together with the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan on August 5-9, 2018. On this occasion, the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga sent two delegates, namely Dr. Nisful Laila. SE., M.Com. (Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga) and Baru Arie Fianto, SE., MBA, Ph.D. (Faculty Ambassador of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga). Dr. Nisful Laila and Bayu Arie Fianto, Ph.D. had the opportunity to present their research results on the fourth day of the conference.

Dr. Nisful Laila and Bayu Arie Fianto, Ph.D., presented the topic of Social Funds and Healthcare: Evidence from Indonesia. Based on the poverty problem that still faces the majority of the Indonesian population, Islam has several potential social instruments that have not been widely developed, namely zakat and waqf. Their research focuses on waqf as a solution to address poverty in Muslim-majority countries, particularly Indonesia. Waqf is wealth donated for the benefit and welfare of the community.

Waqf instruments related to healthcare can help develop public healthcare infrastructure in Indonesia, and their utilization can benefit Indonesian healthcare institutions. At the international conference on health and future economic development, Dr. Nisful Laila discussed this with participants, moderated by Prof. Fong-Chin Su of National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan. Bayu Arie Fianto, Ph.D., also actively participated in the discussion and added that waqf must be managed appropriately to generate sustainable benefits. (baf)
