ABSTRACT
The business environment in the electricity sector is constantly changing, both in terms of market and competition, technological trends and drives, an increasingly warm investment climate and other things that affect the company both directly and indirectly. PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali (PJB) as one of the subsidiaries of PT PLN (Persero) initially only conduct electricity supply business activities in the form of electricity generation activities that are economical, high quality, with good reliability, and in line with dynamics of business and development of market demands, PJB now also conducts other business activities such as construction and
/ or installation of electrical equipment, maintenance and / or operation of electrical
equipment, and other business related to the core competence of the company in order to maximize its potential. Innovation is an integral part in maintaining the sustainability of an organization to face competition and environmental change.
But forming an innovative organization is not an easy thing, innovation should be part of the organizational culture. The success of developing an innovative organization is influenced by several factors, one of the main factor is leadership. Transformational leadership has an indirectly influence on innovative behavior and must be preceded by work engagement (Aryee et al., 2012).
This study aims to determine the effect of transformational leadership on innovative behavior with mediated by work engagement study at Technology and Engineering Department PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali Head Office. This study uses a quantitative approach, as well as using a causal analysis that aims to determine the impact or effect of independent variables on the changes that occur in the dependent variable. Population in this research is all employees of Technology and Engineering Department PT Pembangkitan Jawa-Bali Head Office as many as 59 people. Data collection methods used preliminary surveys, questionnaires and literature study.
The results of this study indicate that there is a significant positive effect between transformational leadership toward innovative behavior. And there is indirectly significant positive effect between transformational leadership toward innovative behavior through work engagement.
