Abstract

To create potential human resources, leaders need to stimulate employees to excel. Stimulating employees to excel means motivating employees to increase their engagement with their work and their work role performance. The role of leaders is very necessary. Organizations need effective leadership that focuses not only on direction, vision, mission, and environment, but also on daily interactions between leaders and employees (or so-called leader-member exchange). This leader-member exchange can also influence the level of employee engagement to their work, or what is called work engagement. The hypotheses in this study are as follows: H1: Leader-member exchange influences work engagement in AUP H2: Leader-member exchange influences work role performance in AUP H3: Leader-member exchange influences work role performance through work engagement in AUP This study uses a quantitative approach with a survey method, through distributing questionnaires to research objects. The population in this study were secretaries, field coordinators, heads of fields, and executive staff at Airlangga University Press. The number of samples is the same as the population, which is 40 people. The results of this study are in accordance with the first and second hypotheses, but not in accordance with the third hypothesis.
