FEB UNAIR Sends delegates to the 2019 ILMUN International Event

Mufid (EP-2017) Karel Geraldo Goethart (Management-2018)

FEB UNAIR students had the opportunity to participate in the International Leaders Model United Nations (ILMUN). Held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, Bangkok, Thailand, the event was held from late January to early February (February 20–20). Mufid, a Development Economics student from class 2017, and Karel Geraldo Goethart, a Management student from class 2018, were the participants. Mufid stated that the event was attended not only by students from the Faculty of Economics and Business UNAIR but also from the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Humanities.

The ILMUN selection process consists of two stages: web registration, followed by filling out the application form. Those who pass the second stage will receive a Letter of Acceptance (LoA)

"When filling out the online form, you don't just need to fill in your personal details, but also choose three councils and three countries in order of priority according to your preferences. Then, you'll write an essay that aligns with the topics of the councils and countries you've chosen," Mufid explained.

The essay will serve as a benchmark for why we should choose that council and country. It will also include insights and explain what we've chosen for the implementation.

After receiving the Letter of Agreement (LoA), delegates will be divided into several councils and countries. Within ILMUN, there are several types of councils, such as WHO, UNESCO, IMF, UNHRC, and the UN Security Council. Participants are then assigned an issue for each council, and delegates must create a position paper outlining their arguments on the issue based on their assigned country's role.

There are many activities there with the main events being the Zero Conference, Meeting Season, First Season, Second Season, and Special Cultural Performance.

Karel revealed that meeting friends from various countries was the most memorable part. Moreover, despite its name covering Asia, there were delegates from Africa (Libya), the Americas (Canada), and even Europe (Croatia).
