Urban Economy

This course focuses on understanding the theory and analysis of economic problems in urban areas. Discussions include the definition of a city, factors influencing its formation, urban spatial structure, land rent and utilization in cities, monocentric and multicentric cities, settlements, urban infrastructure and public facilities, and social environmental issues in cities. The learning process is conducted through a blended learning model using a flipped classroom model. Learning methods include: (1) Synchronous learning through online or offline case discussions for in-depth material; (2) Asynchronous learning through Airlangga University e-learning for independent study using teaching materials provided by lecturers. Lectures are conducted using a project-based learning method. Students also conduct reviews of several journals and compile the results of these investigations into presentation materials. There are also mini-projects to be carried out. Assessment of learning competency achievement is carried out using an assessment portfolio model using several assessment methods according to the competencies that must be achieved by students. In addition, assessment is based on presentation results, active participation in discussions, and mid-term and final exams, which will be further regulated by the PJMK.
