Industrial Economics and Business Competition

This course examines the structure, behavior, and performance of an industry. The ultimate goal of this course is for students to be able to analyze industry behavior based on theory and reality (C4), form opinions based on the results of the analysis of industry behavior (A4), and demonstrate evidence of industry behavior based on data (P3). The course covers the structure-conduct-performance (SCP) paradigm, the welfare consequences of market dominance (monopoly) and firm dominance (oligopoly), and public policy regarding monopoly and oligopoly behavior. The learning method used in this course is problem-based learning, where students discuss the structure, behavior, and performance of an industry by analyzing, forming opinions, and presenting evidence based on data and reality. Assessment of learning outcomes in this course consists of assessment of case study discussions, assignments, and quizzes.
