Economic development

The Development Economics course examines development issues in developing countries, such as economic growth, unequal income distribution, poverty, and so on, based on macroeconomic and microeconomic concepts and quantitative methods. The learning objective is for students to be able to investigate development issues related to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) using macroeconomic and microeconomic concepts and quantitative methods. The course covers development economic concepts, SDG indicators, and empirical studies related to development economics. This course is delivered through a blended learning model using a flipped classroom approach, utilizing synchronous learning methods, both offline and online, for in-depth study, and asynchronous learning through Airlangga University's e-learning platform for independent learning. The learning method employed is problem-based learning, which involves examining development issues and their indicators, both individually and in groups, using case studies provided by the lecturer.

Learning outcomes are assessed using a portfolio model, incorporating several assessment methods, aligned with the competencies required by students: class presentations and discussions, case study solutions, and writing papers on development issues.
