Overview

The Sharia Accounting Theory course examines the theories and conceptual frameworks of Sharia accounting that form the basis for the recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of Sharia financial transactions. The ultimate learning objective is for students to be able to summarize various theories and conceptual frameworks in Islamic accounting, apply these theories and frameworks to financial transactions in the Islamic economic and financial sectors, and synthesize these theories and frameworks into a critical analysis of Islamic financial transactions within Indonesia’s Islamic economic and financial sectors. The course material covers theoretical concepts, principles, and postulates in accounting; the role and importance of Islamic accounting theory in the development of Islamic accounting standards and practices; and the theories and conceptual frameworks of Islamic accounting used in the processes of recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of Islamic financial transactions. The learning process for this course is conducted through a blended learning approach using the flipped classroom model, which involves synchronous learning through face-to-face sessions—whether online, hybrid, or in-person—for case discussions aimed at deepening understanding of the material, and asynchronous learning via Universitas Airlangga e-learning platform for self-directed study of the course materials provided by the instructor. The teaching method used in the course is problem-based learning, which involves formulating and solving problems—either independently or in groups—related to phenomena and practices in Islamic accounting, focusing on the critical analysis of the recognition, measurement, presentation, and disclosure of Islamic financial transactions from the perspective of theory and the conceptual framework in Islamic accounting. Assessment of learning outcomes is conducted using a portfolio assessment model that incorporates various assessment methods in accordance with the competencies that students are expected to achieve.
