(HIMA S1 IE NEWS) Mojokerto, July 6, 2025 – The Undergraduate Student Association of Economics (HIMA IE) of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Airlangga (FEB UNAIR) successfully held the Community Development (COMDEV) 2025 program in Begaganlimo Village, Gondang District, Mojokerto Regency from June 30 to July 6, 2025. This annual community service activity carries a multidimensional approach that includes the education, economic, health, and environmental sectors as a real effort in village empowerment.
This year, COMDEV 2025 marks the beginning of a new partnership with Begaganlimo Village, replacing the previous partner village that has completed a three-year service cycle. Through this program, students not only contribute ideas and real actions for the community, but also broaden their understanding of socio-economic dynamics at the grassroots level.
A Week Full of Social Action: Tourism Revitalization to Children's Education
During the seven-day event, COMDEV 2025 upheld five principles of community engagement: informing, entertaining, supporting, connecting, and collaborating. The event officially opened on Monday, June 30, 2025, through intensive coordination with village officials, elementary schools, and BUMDes administrators as implementing partners.
One of the flagship programs is the revitalization of Lembah Harapan—a village natural tourism area that had previously been under-managed. Through mutual cooperation activities, simple facility improvements, and local promotion, this area was revived as a strategic economic potential for the village.
Meanwhile, COMDEV Mengajar was present daily, focusing on character and ethics education for village children through an interactive and fun approach. This activity was complemented by English learning sessions and educational experiments aimed at enriching the basic skills of the younger generation.
Focus on Health and a Sustainable Environment
In the health sector, COMDEV collaborates with local community health centers (Puskesmas) to conduct integrated health post (Posyandu) checkups and stunting prevention counseling for mothers. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of nutrition and health in building a healthy and resilient village generation.
In the environmental sector, the COMDEV team conducted outreach on the use of eco-enzymes in river water, considering that water is a vital village commodity and one of the main services of the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes). In addition, environmental cleanups and organized waste management are carried out to instill clean and healthy living habits.
Synergy between Students and the Community: Building Inclusive Social Relations
More than just a work program implementation, COMDEV 2025 became a space for inclusive social interaction between students and residents. Various activities such as community discussion forums, children's entertainment, simple technology training, and joint sports helped strengthen relationships between generations.
Routine evaluations were carried out every afternoon by the committee to ensure the program's effectiveness and also as a space for students to reflect on the impact of the activities carried out.
COMDEV 2025 successfully brought a real impact to Begaganlimo Village through the implementation of cross-sector programs over seven full days. From the revitalization of the Lembah Harapan tourist area, increasing community awareness about the importance of nutrition and children's health, to interactive education involving various age groups, this activity demonstrated a strong integration between academic learning and social action.
In addition to being a space for service, COMDEV also encouraged the development of local village potential, particularly in the field of tourism-based economy and strengthening community capacity through education and collaboration. The active participation of residents was evidence that this program was well-received and provided direct benefits to the community.
The activity closed with a reflection and documentation session with residents, accompanied by hopes for continued collaboration in the future. Through COMDEV 2025, UNAIR Economics students demonstrated that community service is not just a work program, but a concrete step in building change from the grassroots.
