Abstract

One of the main causes of the increasing unemployment rate is the disproportionate number of job opportunities compared to the number of applicants or job seekers. Indonesia's population in 2018 was estimated to reach 265 million (Bappenas, 2013). The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a significant number of unemployed college graduates, which increased from August 2016 to February 2018 (BPS, 2018). Increasing the number of entrepreneurs is considered one solution to reduce unemployment. This study aims to determine the positive effect of entrepreneurial self-efficacy on entrepreneurial intention directly and through attitude toward entrepreneurship, perceived entrepreneurial control, and subjective norms. The results of this study are expected to provide suggestions for higher education institutions and the government to motivate the younger generation, especially students, to develop an entrepreneurial spirit and thus be interested in becoming entrepreneurs. The results of this study indicate that entrepreneurial self-efficacy has a positive and significant direct effect on entrepreneurial intention. Furthermore, attitude toward entrepreneurship and subjective norms are proven to play a mediating role in the positive and significant relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention. Based on these results, the mediating role of attitude toward entrepreneurship and subjective norms is partial mediation. Furthermore, perceived entrepreneurial control was not proven to play a mediating role in the positive relationship between entrepreneurial self-efficacy and entrepreneurial intention.

Keywords: Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy, Attitude Towards Entrepreneurship, Perceived Entrepreneurial Control, Subjective Norms
