Abstract

In a business, profit maximization is a principle that must be applied to ensure the continuity of a business. The limitations of operational mechanisms, both in terms of time and location in mobile markets according to the current market day, indirectly affect the potential profit that can be obtained by market traders. This study seeks to uncover the meaning of profit from the perspective of mobile market traders according to existing customs, traditions and culture. This study uses a qualitative approach with a realist ethnographic method that attempts to dig deeper into the meaning of profit in mobile markets. The data collection technique uses the Creswell method and ethnographic interview techniques following Spradley's steps. The results of this study indicate that the meaning of profit refers to two forms, namely (1) material profit in the form of cash business results that can be immediately enjoyed to fulfill various life goals; (2) non-material profit in the form of benefits in the form of kinship. Despite all the limitations and characteristics inherent in mobile markets, it does not change the fact that the more mobile market locations traders visit, the more social interactions they have, the more maximum profits they get, both in material and non-material forms.
