Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze and test the influence of agricultural sector output, processing industry, hotel trade, and restaurant on the number of poor people in East Java Province. The quantitative approach in this study uses a regression method in pane/. The data used are Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) at market prices (AHDK) in 2000 and the number of poor people from 29 regencies and 9 cities in East Java Province, from 2005 to 2013. Estimation uses the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) or often called the Less Squares Dummy Variable (LSD V) technique. The results of the model show that agricultural sector output, processing industry, hotel trade, and restaurant have a negative and significant effect on the number of poor people in East Java Province. The research results suggest that an increase in agricultural sector output of Rp. 1 billion will reduce the number of poor people by 355 people, all things being equal. An increase in industrial sector output of Rp. 1 billion will reduce the number of poor people by 169 people, all things being equal. An increase in hotel and restaurant trade sector output of Rp. 1 billion will reduce the number of poor people by 217 people, all things being equal. The recommended suggestions are the need for revitalization of agricultural infrastructure. Industrial growth must consider the potential of each region, its natural resources, and its geographical location. Creative efforts are needed by considering the potential of the most dominant sub-sectors and the natural potential of each region.
