Abstract

The era of globalization has resulted in an increasingly open competitive climate in all fields. Especially in business, the demands for organizations to always compete will be increasingly high. While previously only competing nationally, now they must compete in the global market. In contrast, the era of globalization requires organizations to develop and utilize their Human Resources (HR) to the maximum extent possible. Currently, organizations are experiencing a scarcity of qualified and competent resources, where competition continues to increase. This causes organizations to manage HR effectively. There are several issues that are currently becoming problems in HR management, including employee attachment or work engagement. The level of employee engagement can be influenced by the alignment of their work values ​​with the company's work values. In addition to work values, employees also have a need to fulfill their basic psychological needs that must be met. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of work values ​​on work engagement, with basic need satisfaction as a mediating variable. The variables in this study were measured by a survey of 32 respondents at PT. Toyota Astra Auto 2000 Sidoarjo branch using the Partial Least Square (PLS) statistical tool. The results of this study indicate that work values ​​have a significant positive effect on work engagement, and basic need satisfaction has no significant effect on work engagement. Based on these results, basic need satisfaction is not proven to be a mediating variable between work values ​​and work engagement. These results are expected to provide input for company management in managing work values ​​and employees' basic psychological needs to increase their work engagement.
